Default How to clean chain

My new X had some type of white colored sticky chain wax on it from either the factory or dealer. When I got it back from the dunes last weekend I noticed it was covered in sand. What is the best way to clean this thing off? I have a pressure washer but I heard that is not the best to use on an o-ring type chain since you run the risk of getting water inside of it.

I found this post clean chain My first guess if it is bad is diesel fuel, second WD 40. I use WD40 on all my chains works good.
