Default Buying a sport quad

I have not ran a ATV for a long time. I'm 24 now and I used to run almost every day on 110-350 3 wheelers when i was 6-10 years old. I have been wanting to get a quad for a long time but have not really kept up with the sport at all until about a 2 months ago. I have been doing research on the net and reading as many mags as I can about what type and size sport quad would suit me best. I have been looking at a the suzy Z400, Honda TRX450 ,yamy YZF 450 and the Polaris Pred 500. I like the pred the most just by looking at it I like the braided brake lines and the rear remote resivoir shocks I have heard great things about all of them. It doesnt really mattter to me which one is the fastest in a straight line. I'm looking more for best handling, reliability, and a decent price tag. I will more than likely end rompimg around around the house and trail riding but I love racing and I'd like to get involved in that aspect at some point. My question is what do you guys recomend for some that is looking for these things out of a quad. I am leaning toward the predator but realizing I know nothing about any of the bikes other than what a salesman has told me or what I have seen in a brochure its best to ask the guys/gals that actually have one. Thanks in advance.

The Z400 is a great all-around machine, and the engine mods up well when you want more power. Handling is excellent, and the bike has a light feel. A real pleasure to ride!

The 450's are more specialized. They aren't really machines that are best suited for putting around on trails. I prefer them for faster riding in more open country.

No first hand experience on the Predator.

what kind of racing are you wanting to get into??? if your wanting to get into mx then I would defenetly say the 450 classes would best suit you...I hear that the yfz might be a little better mx'er but they are both good. I agree with reconranger....the z-400 is great all around and would be best if you did tons of trail riding....you can trail ride the 450R I would just suggest to gear down one tooth on the front sprocket...as for the predator.....a good all around quad...and if modded right can be very fast....So its really what your planning on doing more........if you want to get into mx'n then I would say the yfz or trx....if your wanting a lot of trails then the z-400 or other 400 machines(kfx, dvx) the pred is an all around quad...............................All these quads can do everything...trails, mx, desert, some of them are just better in some areas then the rest........I would say......test ride them and see what feels the best for you...when you ride them...you'll know what you like the best

You really can't go wrong with any of the quads you are looking at. Go to the dealership and look them over, sit on them and if you can take'em for a ride. I have a Z and think it is a great bike, i mostly trail ride. The 400ex is a good bike to if you can get a good price on one. Just get what is comfortably to you, as far as racing goes, I might be wrong but i think the predator is to high of a cc to compete unless you get the kit that lowers it to a 450cc. What ever you decide to get will make you happy so, good luck.
