Just Startin Out

Well, you need a quad defenetly!! jj........but if your going to hit some serious mx tracks then I would check into widening your quad and suspension...I think those are a must...Other then that....some good practice.

Check with the track or organization that you are going to be riding at. Other than minimum protective gear, helmet, gloves and boots, you will probably need nerf bars and a tether kill switch. Not all require nerf bars, but I have yet to go to a race where a tether kill switch was not required on quads.
I found it is always good to set goals when you are just starting out like;
Don't come in last
Try and pass somebody
Don't crash
Take it slow and give yourself time to learn. Don't feel like you need to go out and win your first race. You don't want to sit on the sidelines in a cast watching the races because you blew it in the first race.

Wear all the protective equipment.At my first race last year I just had the minimum,helmet,goggles,gloves,workboots.I caught a rut and the bike snapped sideways and threw me over the handlebars.I hit my chest hard on the throttle assembly and had a bruise for about 2 months!I now have a chest protector and riding boots as well.You can do mods to the bike as you figure out what its strengths and weaknesses are but first of all protect yourself from injury.

Deffinetly all the safety stuff mentioned!!
I used to race, had a race machine and I was there to race!! I also ended up wrecking alot.
I then took a few years off (took that long to figure out where I was goofing up) I came back in 2000 with the sincere desire to see the checkered flag.So now I plan on comming in last unless there actually is someone slower than I out there or I feel bad when someone breaks.The new theory has worked well.I don't crash anymore, I'm usually not last, and I see the checked flag now.
Good luck and have fun.
