Should I buy a 99 polaris sport

For your first bike and your age you need to be looking at the 250 class and work up from there. But the price is in the ballpark.

That's a pretty big bike for a 14 year old. It was my older brother's first quad, but I think he was more like 16 or 17. If you're an average or small-sized kid, I'd suggest maybe something like a 300ex.

It all depends on the person. My son started off on a 350cc Warrior that had a high comp. piston, White Bros. E-Series pipe and a carb rejet when he was 12 yrs old. That was the first thing he ever rode with a manual clutch and it only took him a day to master it. It also had seperate brakes. I bought him a yamaha PW80 when he was 5 yrs old so he had experience on a motorcycle. He rode the warrior until we sold it to buy the scrambler a couple of years ago because we needed another 4x4. He is 17 yrs old now. I think with the sport having a auto clutch and single brake lever, it would be easier to start out on then a warrior would be. The warrior was just as fast as the stock Scrambler was and like I said it all depends on the person.

The Sport 400 is an exelent bike for 2000-2500 that is realy good price for a 99. I would buy it its a perfect balance of handling, stability and power. Its fairly powerfull but its not too much to handle. Im lookin for one my self. My friend has one and he loves it more than his life. If you buy it now learn to ride it stock maybe later on you will think about moding cause you can make that machine realy fast if you wanted.

go ahead and get it,because if you don't, you'll be regretting one day that you didn't.

My opinion is,.. buy the biggest YOU can handle. If you have experience in quadding by borrowing/being a passenger it helps alot.
May long weekend my 12 yr old drove my 2 stroke 400 sportsman, handled it great and did awesome thru all kinds of bog/H20/hills/mud.... but he's been a passenger behind me for years,.. and i started his training early on easy trails and hills.
Enjoy your new ride...
