Carb Burn ... burn fuel off before turning off ???
#1
Just picked up my new Raptor and there were these disclaimers that they dont cover carb burns through warranty. Dealer said to help prevent the need to do this to just turn the fuel switch to off and let it burn out all the fuel instead of just turning the ignition off when not going to use the quad for the rest of the day. Is this really a good idea and does it really help ??? Any technical explanation of how this helps, etc. would also be good.
Thanks in advance ...

well i know that it is harder to start when you burn all the gas out of the carb and lines becuase it has to fill all the lines which takes longer but it is true in thery it is better becuase it doesnt leave gas in the cylinder.

I do the "Burn Out" on all my quads after every ride, and if they sit for more than a week thats when it's a really good idea to empty the float bowls. Just my opinon, it works for me with no problems...

The reason they recommend this is because if you let the quad sit, for awhile, like a month, the lighter, more volitile components of the gas, evaporate off. This leaves the heavier components, and the stuff which is solids( dirt ,grime, insolublies). After awhile, this builds up, and eventually ends up, being sucked into the jets and small passageways of the carb. The pilot jet, for example, is about .016" diameter, and it doesnt take much to plug it totally closed.
If you let the motor, do the emptying, of the carb, there wont be anything left in there to evaporate off. And itll be left spotlessly clean, and ready for the next time. If you dont want the motor to do this, all carbs have a screw at the bottom of the float bowl, which will drain it, and this accomplishes the same thing.
When you go to start it up, the next time, turn the gas to on, and shake the quad back and forth for about 5 secs, this will jiggle the gas into flowing to the float bowl.
Ive been doing this on all my motorcycles and quads for over 20 years, and never had plugged carb problems.
