what do the dealers do on the first service?
#5
You want to know what dealers do on first service?.... NOTHING! They figure that if you will bring it to them, then they might as well take your money and do no service. It won't void your warranty if you do the service yourself. But get someone to help you if you don't know much about it. If you mess something up and bring it to them to repair and they find out that it was your fault, then they will pin it on you. But if you think about it, they will charge you more in the life of the quad for services, then it would cost you to get it fixed, when and IF it breaks. I myself would take the chance and not even have the B.S. ext. warranty, but for someone that can't do the work themselves, it's all up to them.

There is a section in your owners manual to keep records of your service. Just write down your miles or hours when you do the work. Get your valves checked when the book reccomends it. The better records you keep the less leverage they have to say you didn't take care of your quad.
I took my Griz in to let them do the initial work (cuz I'm a dumb ***) and all they did is let it sit outside in their lot for 4 days. I'm glad I picked it up before they did anything to it. I'm sure I saved over $300 by installing the winch and changing my own oil and filter. I'll take it to the Honda shop to get the valves checked. They did my Raptor and it ran much better afterwards.

Get the manual , do the work yourself, Write down dates and apprximate hours, keep recipts for oil and filters, and your warranty will be good and you will have the proof you did the work (documentation).
My buddy just heard from Honda, they won't cover the warranty because he did not show documentation about having adjusted the cam chain, which came apart due to a failed tensioner......Honda...Best on Earth??? I don't think so!
