Default vitos 4 degree timing key, do i need anything else?

I was just wondering about this 4 degree timing key if i would need anything else in addition to the key. Like if i would need to do some other changes to make this work, or just simply install and go. I have a 2000 banshee with wiescos, T-5 pipes and silencers, dual K&N clamp ons and no airbox. I am currently running a 300 main jet. Would the timing key provide a noticeable difference? Is it very safe to run it, am i going to have to worry about severe reliability issues or not? just some input would be nice, oh yeah am i going to have to worry about detonation, jus wondering? Input is greatly appreciated thanks.

You shouldn't have any detonation problems with the key. I installed a couple of 4 degree keys into my sons' Blasters and you do pick up some very noticeable bottom and mid range on those, without any perceptible loss of top end. You need a flywheel removal tool to get to the key. They sell them for 12 bucks or so at Vito's. One thing to watch for, is that the offset keys are weaker. We sheared one of them first trip out, which then allows the crank to slip on the flywheel and retart the timing. Ran it up real hot, sending unburnt fuel into the pipe, it was a mess. The other one worked fine for over a year and we sold that Blaster.

If you run one of these keys, keep the stock one and the flywheel puller in your toolbox. Fairly quick and simple job to change it.

having bought 3 timing keys, if i had to do it again, i would just nut up and spend the extra money and buy an adjustable stator plate from the get-go. if you get the ricky stator one, it isn't even much maro than just the key itself.

An excellent mod to do since your already going to be in there is to lighten the flywheel. Advancing the timing and lightening the flywheel are almost always done together, because they are both right there, and it makes a big difference when paired together. Lightening it will let it rev quicker, and it WILL NOT make it stall easier. I dont know anyone who didnt like lightening theres. Become a member of the Banshee HQ forums and send boonman a pm, he does it for around $60 shipped I believe.

so basically is it worth it, i mean is the reliability taken away. also would i really need to lighten the flywheel right now i'm a little short on cash at the moment. also i don't mind digging back in there to lighten the flywheel later?

neither the flywheel mod nor the degree key( or the timing plate) will affect your reliability

rickystator.com- for the timing plate
you would not need a colder plug unless you run 7 degrees advance(7 degrees is for drag racing only-stick with 4)
