Should i rebuild my rear shock? or not
#1
Ok. It's time for me to rebuilt my rear shock. I was wondering if i should just get a hold of a used good working condition rear shock or spent $300+ for a rebuild? thanks tell me your experiences with rebuilds. My 250R is a 85 Lt...

The biggest reason to not rebuild your rear shock is that the 85-86 LT's did not have adjustable compression. When my shock died, I got a used shock from an 88 LT and had Elka rebuild it and change the spring to match my weight. It rides better than my stocker, I now have adjustable rebound and compression and cost me $350 total. Works rear shocks start at $529.

the important thing to find out is if the shaft is pitted. I thought mine was ok but I found out it was not. If you shaft is pitted it will need to be re-chromed and that can cost about $175 on top of the $125 for someone to look at it plus the parts needed to fix it. At that point it probally better to just do an aftermarket shock.
