Default Well i drained the oil, Not good

i drained the oil today and found a bunch a gold flakes, and i took the strainer out of the tank and they where all over it. In my recent post i was saying it felt like the clutch was slipping in higher gears and when it got hot whenever tou let off the throttle it would fell kinda like u where downshifting. Also i just changed my oil before these problems it probably got about 5 hours on it. The oil looked dark grey and i used castrol atv and it was red when i put in it. Could those flakes be the clutch fibers. What should i do, put stock clutch fibers back in and try to flush the oil system out?

How do you get the screen out on an 04 Viper DS ? I have seen it while doing my first oil change but didn't look into how to get it out. It looked clean , but I would like to know for future service. Thanks

Removing the screen should be the same for any DS. There is a threaded fitting on the bottom of the oil tank that has the screen attached to it. If you thread out that fitting the screen will come with it. When you put it back in be sure to use a sealing compound or some teflon tape or it will leak a little. I clean mine about every 3rd oil change and have yet to see any think bad in it. I hope it stay that way as well.

the gold flakes most likely are the bottom end bearing! But the bearing is overkill in the DS, so you might still be OK with it.

do not run the motor until this issue is resolved!!!

never run the motor when there is a loss of power, especially after an oil change!!

you can measure the oil pressure at the 1/8" NPT port where the oil pressure switch is, right behind where the oil filter housing is (not inside the housing). I believe NAPA sells a low cost mechanical oil pressure gauge with various fittings that works. FYI, the pressure will get lower as the oil comes up to temperature.

I gotta go with Scooby. The gold looking flakes are brobably the crank bearing.

If you are seeing a loss in power, I would look to get a new crank or send yours off and get it re-built OR even better, stroke it!

Send me a PM if you are interested in a bottom-end. I may know someone that is looking to sell one.

Get me your number on the PM and I'll give you a call.
