What oil weight, oil capacity, and which filter to use on a 2004.5 Sportsman 500?

Brother just bought one and can't find specs anywhere and needs to change the oil!

Oil weight and recommended brand?

Oil filter brand and part #?

Oil capacity with filter change?

What oil weight, oil capacity, and which filter to use on a 2004.5 Sportsman 500?

2 quarts of oil (after you drain the crankcase too and filter) of 0W-40 Synthetic motor oil. Either the Polaris brand, Amsoil 0W-40 4 stroke, or Mobil 1 0W-40 "European Car Formula". And you can use a Napa Gold filter #1358

Its in the owners manual, it says API rating SH and has to be a viscosity of 0W-40.

go to your nearest polaris dealer and get a oil change kit. It has everything you need plus instructions on how to do it.Id also have them order you a shop manule if you plan on working on it your self.Be carfull if you take the oil line off to clean the screen i have heard of the plastic oil tank cracking when removing the line.Make sure to prime the oil pump after if you disconnnnect the line.
