Default Just picked up a yamaha warrior

Hi everyone, I'm new to the yamaha board I used to have a polaris trailblazer 250 until a couple days a go I fried the rings and blew the head gasket and that got me pissed off because I only had the ATV for 2 years and didnt ride it that much.Anyways I traded it in along with a trailer and picked up a 2001 warrior for 3 grand is that a good price? It is in very well condition the motor works great but I might need to replace the pipe. I need some info on this quad though. How tough is the transmission? This is the 1st ATV i have had with a clutch although I ride my friends dirtbikes all the time. Is the warrior reliable? I know the 2.4 gallon tank is small about how long will it last? Also the plastic is shot I'm thinking about going with maier all around but do any of you guys know who make the hood that was on the FST warrior in the june 03 issue of dirtwheels that looked like a blaster nose? What is the best pipe all around? And if I pop the clutch to get the machine to wheelie will it ruin my clutch life? Thanks in advance guys.

hey nice choice of yamaha. i have some experiance with the warrior. it's extreamly reliable. it's a great all around bike. i think u done a good job on pricing and such. the hood on the fst is a blaster hood moded to fit the warrior. i sure u would have troble doing that. and yes go with maire. i have that on my blaster and it is trick. no way pop the clutch all u want it wont hurt a thing. i would say the best pipe for the money is the white bros r4......hope this help. and good luck with ur new bike.

Yeah, the trans and just about everything on it is reliable, that should be the least of your concerns. Since it was used you should check every piece on it to make sure everything was tightened to the right torque, ect. For a pipe I'm not sure what exactly gives the optimum power, but the Yoshi w/fmf power bomb header gave me one heck of a response, and set the quad to run best in the mids and high end compared to most setups I've seen, with much less noise until it's in the higher ranges. You can't go wrong with that headpipe, and I decided to get the Yoshi because it makes you go right when you need to. This setup was just what it needed, since it ran like a tractor with all low and lower mid range power with just the slipon. The clutch on the warrior even holds with Alba's 400 stroker kit, so I doubt if you'll burn it up any time soon. I've ragged the living sh*t out of mine for 3 years so far without a problem. After I got the carb I didn't need to even drop the clutch to wheelie, even with 14/40 gearing. I run with 14/42 now with the 20" rears now, that works out excellent for my weight on the trails.

Gotta love the Warrior

I have an 01 Warrior and I run an FMF Mega pipe system, jet kit and a K&N filter. They have an awesome reliability history, that's why I bought one. They are a fun quad if you don't ride too hard.

If you are a bigger rider you might wanna get a stiffer rear spring for starters it's worth its price ten fold. The Warrior suspension is not the best especially compared to newer quads. And the stock tires suck, toss them away ASAP. Being an 01 there might not be much rubber left if they are stock anyway.

You also don't really need to pop the clutch to wheelie a Warrior. Mine will do it from a rolling start no problem, just roll on the gas and give a little tug and you're wheels will come up. In 2nd gear you can wheelie out of slow corners just by pulling up and fanning the clutch a bit.

I think you'll find the torque of the Warrior much more fun compared to the Polaris. And you'll also like the "engine braking" that a 2-stroke doesn't give you, especially in the woods.

Also watch the rocks, unless you already have full skids. The stock Warrior skid plates are.....well.......they are nonexistant for the most part.

Other than that, change the oil and keep the filters clean and the Warrior will be good to you.

I would agree, the stock tires are garbage. To get the best of the warrior you should get some 20" dia rears, with at least a 10" width. I would also agree with the skid plate issue. The best skid for the rear would be the Ricochet bullet .25" thick one. I did a lot of research before I bought mine, and I'm glad I did. In the far north of the U.P. you come accross some nasty boulders. When I went up with the stock crappy bars underneath I ended up bending one of the engine skid mounting brackets. The swingarm skid ended up rubbing on the rotor also, and I had to bend it back out twice with a hammer. The Ricochet can deflect off those rocks doing an easy 60mph before it even shows a scratch. The warrior can be sweet for hard riding, you just have to make it have the high end power so you ride in it's powerband all the time. I was pretty amazed when I went up to Atlanta trail after tuning all the mods, the thing definately rips now. Can't wait to see what a racing cam and piston will do! lol
