Default Z400 trouble

My Z is having a little trouble lately.I can take and ride it for an hour or so and it runs great but, then it starts to sputter and shuts off.It will not start back up or run unless it is choked and you cannot give it any throttle at all or it will stall again. After the quad sits for a few hours it will generally run fine.I thought that it may have some water in the fuel so I drained the tank and carb bowl. Anyone here have an answer????

Vent hose isn't clogged or kinked is it? That's what it sounds like. Run it till it stalls, then take the gas cap off, if it's sucking air, it's the vent hose.

Same thing happened to me. There was gunk in the carb and probably stuck in the jets. Get some carb cleaner and spray those jets and carb. real good. Once I did that it ran great!

ltz400guy is right. i had the same problem w/ one of my bikes. i cleaned out the carb and the bike ran like it was new.

couple of hints- take ur time taking it apart
lay everything out just like it was when u took it apart
use ur manual if u have one

i just about to do some work on my carb and i looked in the manual and the diagrams are amazing. they are so specific and easy to understand. a person that had never looked at a carb would be able to understand it.
