Throttle Assembly

What are the contacts inside the throttle assembly of a 2001 sportsman 400 for? Are they the ETC switch, and what is an ETC switch?

When the contacts close, my machine dies.

Throttle Assembly

If the throttle cable should break, or stick, it kills the engine.
