how to test a CDI box
#1
Is there a Writeup on how to test a CDI box? or can someone just tell me what wires i need to test to see if my CDI is working. I have a 2000 DS 650 and i am getting no spark from the coils..

Just went through this with my DS650...here is what you need to do (from the Bomb Service Manual)
(1). Check the fuses under the seat
(2). Check for loose wires, etc
(3). Check ignition switch:
A quick test to validate it is working. Turn the ignition
switch ON then place the headlight switch in
ON position. If the lights turn on, the ignition
switch is good.
Further test:
Test
Disconnect ignition switch.
Measure voltage between RED supply wire and
the battery ground. If voltage is lower than battery
voltage, test the wiring. If voltage is good, test
switch.
Use a multimeter and measure the resistance between
the following wires.
POSITION:
OFF- WHITE and BROWN - Infinite
ON - WHITE and BROWN 0.1 . max.
If switch is good, continue the other tests
(4). Check the ignition trigger coil (what was wrong with mine)
Here is how:
Remove seat.
Unplug the 2 wire connector under seat.
A battery must be present in the vehicle to allow
the ignition system to work. Also, at least 8 V is
required for proper operation. Check battery voltage.
Ignition switch
A quick test to validate it is working. Turn the ignition
switch ON then place the headlight switch in
ON position. If the headlight turn on, the ignition
switch is good.
DYNAMIC TEST
1. Disconnect the Deutsch 2-pin connector.
2. Connect one of the multimeter probes to the
GREEN/YELLOW wire and the other to the engine,
then bring selector switch to and scale
to 00.0VAC.
3. Press START button, note result. The obtained
value should be between 0.4 and 0.7 Vac. Repeat
operation 3 times.
4. If the trigger coil is out of specification, replace
it. If it tests good continue the other tests.
(5). Electronic Module
When every other components above have been
tested and are good, the electronic module can be
suspected. Ensure wiring and connectors are in
good condition prior to replacing the electronic
module.
TEST
Ok, the graph from the CD will not cut and paste here.
I will check to see if you have an email addy available on your profile and will send it.
If not, guess you are on your own.....
