1997 Bearcat 4X4?
#1
I just purchased my first ATV a 97 Bearcat 4X4. It was rolled over and needs some minor repair work. I just could not passit up for the price. My question is does anyone have any information about makin git a tad quicker. It is ok and I plan to use it for ice fishing and snowplowing mostly, but I will be doing some trail riding with some friends that have Warriors and DS-650's. I know I can't run with them but I would not mind getting some more power out of it. Plus it should be fun when I have to pull them out of the mud one in a while. Thanks.

Not really. My cousin's 98 model will hit about 51 top end (GPS reading- Speedometer is buried), and its bouncing off the rev limiter. Quad is geared a little low to me on the high end. It could use another gear. You might find a jet kit for it and maybe Supertrapp makes an exhaust that would fit it, but other than that, I don't know of anything at all.

Your not going to find much to speed up the old Cat, but you will not be lacking in the power department. The old 454's were crude but real powerhouses. Make sure unit has the carb with primer as a part of the carb( all 454's were supposed to be changed over but I have seen some that slipped by), set valves at .003 on intake and .009 on exhaust to help with starting, use 6 heat range on sparkplug, use foam air filter(not paper with foam prefilter), get carb jetted right for your area and it will out pull anything you put it up against.

yeah what he said. Get a CR6E spark plug (NGK) instead of the CR8E that the bike came with. That helps some. Its a hotter plug. There really isn't a way to make this quad much faster at all. Its pretty much just a workhorse quad. But its got enough to keep up on the trails regardless, and it will go through some very hairy stuff too. Like a Hummer. Not fast, but will go anywhere. That quad is a climbing fool too. A lot of weight in the front end. If you still have the old parking brake lock on the footbrake, you should probably look into getting the hand brake lever lock on it. The footbrake is crap on all Arctic Cats. My uncle's is disconnected (because it broke off and they didn't bother fixing it).

Thanks for the info. I plan on getting a winch on it so I can pull my buddies out. I also will jet and add a K&N air filter to it. Like I said figured it was good enough to get started and try out riding. This way I'll know what I want and don't want on my next ride.
