99 400 SPORT

Default 99 400 SPORT

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE CARB SETTINGS FOR THIS MACHINE SHOULD BE, CAN ANYONE HELP ME

Is this machine stock or modded? If stock the main should be around a 230 main jet from the factory. The pilot should be a 35. And the needle should be in the 4th slot. Somebody pipe in if I'm wrong cause it's been a long time since my bike has been stock.

THE IDLE IS ROUGH AND IS FOULING PLUGS

Can you adjust the idle by the idle screw? If not then you might want to check the air screw. Screw the air mixture screw all the way in and then back out 1 1/2 turns then let it idle or run for 10 minutes or so then try to adjust the idle.

Did this start doing this all of the sudden or was it set up for a while and then run like this? If the latter is the case then you might want to drain the gas and put new in then see what happens.

Get yourself an inexpensive maint manual from your local Polaris dealer. It will pay for itself very quickly. Also don't forget to check your air filter.....if it's really dirty, that'll be choking off the air. There's also a fuel, and an oil filter on the LH side of the tank which need periodic replacement. IT'S A BUDDY'S MACHINE, IT WAS DOINING IT WHEN HE GOT IT. THE DEALER MADE AN ADJUSTMENT TO THE THROTTLE CABLE AND IT WAS BETTER FOR AWHILE. HE HAS HAS RUN A COUPLE OF TANKS THRU IT SINCE THEN. THANKS MAXDAD

If the throttle cable is not routed properly it can cause the bike to idle up or down depending on which way the handlebars are turned. If the idle goes up when he turns the bars then he needs to adjust the cable until it stops idling up when the bars are turned. The cable is being stretched causing the cable to lift up on the slide in the carb. I would also change the fuel and oil filters.
