Can you adjust the idle by the idle screw? If not then you might want to check the air screw. Screw the air mixture screw all the way in and then back out 1 1/2 turns then let it idle or run for 10 minutes or so then try to adjust the idle.
Did this start doing this all of the sudden or was it set up for a while and then run like this? If the latter is the case then you might want to drain the gas and put new in then see what happens.

Get yourself an inexpensive maint manual from your local Polaris dealer. It will pay for itself very quickly. Also don't forget to check your air filter.....if it's really dirty, that'll be choking off the air. There's also a fuel, and an oil filter on the LH side of the tank which need periodic replacement. If the throttle cable is not routed properly it can cause the bike to idle up or down depending on which way the handlebars are turned. If the idle goes up when he turns the bars then he needs to adjust the cable until it stops idling up when the bars are turned. The cable is being stretched causing the cable to lift up on the slide in the carb. I would also change the fuel and oil filters.
