Default 400EX dragging problem

Hey people, I purchased a 400 EX and I'm having problems getting stuck on not only big size rocks but the small ones, it just drags out and there i am having to get off and pick it off the rock. I added a skid plate which seems to help guide over them a bit better, This is my first sport quad, My first owned atv was a rancher so i didnt have problems getting stuck often lol, I was just wondering if maybe updating to a higher profile tire would help this or what? any suggestions? thanks

You can drop to a 13 tooth front sprocket with 22" tires and that will help. Given you are new, give it some time. You will learn the best way to get over and around obstacles. One mistake I see people make is trying to straddle obstacles like a large rock. Pick a side when you can and take that front and rear tire over the obstacle. If you can avoid riding directly in ruts, stay out of them. There are times when you can't avoid ruts due to a tree on one side and rocks on the other. You can't do anything in this case. If a 4X4 quad made the ruts then you are SOL.

oh yea, stand up and wiggle back and forth on your foot pegs too using your handlebars for leverage. I see too many people trying to ride sitting down all the time.

Good luck!

What notuRaptor said. Don't straddle the rocks or roots. Take your tires right over the tops of them. I used to have a 400ex and it is a great trail machine. You'll get used to it. Keep your speed up, don't crawl over them like you did on your rancher.
