Default My Z250 betrayed me!!! (broken bone story)

I now have a crushed knuckle in my left hand because of mostly rider error. The story is that I was at a new track and I was racing around one of the smaller intermediate course and I had hit this double like five times before and after a while I got adjusted to the track and on the lap this happened I was rockin and rollin and I was on the rev limiter in third so i shifted into fourth right before the face of the jump and I geuss I was carrying too much speed. 3 things followed... I was going way too fast for that jump and I got way too much air and the quad got very nose-heavy. I overshot the jump, landed on my two front wheels, got chucked off in front of the quad, it ran over me and broke my hand. So no riding for me for about a month or so.

That sucks. But how big was the jump? It doesn't seem like a Z250 could handle very big jumps.

well there was a 300ex and even a YFZ that would not hit the jumps I was hitting( Yes it was a yfz but I am geussing a first timer on it or something) but it was about a 10 foot gap with the face being about 4-5 feet tall. was not very big.

that sucks. i went riding with a friend and he took me to another friends track. it was an okay track. 2 doubles some singles and a big *** kicker with no real landing. we were both riding our z400's and 2 other kids were on cr125's. the kicker was perfect for bikes, but for atvs our nose always came up. well he hit this jump and landed very smoothly. it was weird, he pulled into the weeds instead of hitting the doubles. so i drove over and he's just sitting there. i didnt notice at first but he snapped his handlebars right at the edge of the mount. it was weird no kinks or anything, just a clean break. it was halarious

Hey man, sorry about your hand. I ALMOST had a bad experiance on my Z. I was working on clearing a 20ft double and came up a little short and bounced and my knees digging into the handlbars were the only thing that saved me from going over the bars. I got some cut up knees, a really good view of my front front bumper, and was talking funny for a little bit. But the next time i hit it I cleared it.

well I went back down there because my stepdad went riding at the same place and i measured up the gap and it was 18 feet 9 inches fromthe peak of the launch to the base, before the peak, of the landing. So it was a little bigger than remembered (from what little memory I had). Man I am proud of my little Z because I also thought the suspension couldnt handle that big of a jump.

Hilarious? No i dont think it was. I just bought those fly handlebars off of ebay and some sweet yellow and black gel grips too so hopefully I'll be good to go soon. Then maybe we'll be able to ride the track for more than 30 minutes lol.

From what it sounds you shifted into fourth right before the jump and that is not a good idea because you want to have good rpm's going when you hit the jump so your nose doesn't dive down. You probably were bogging down in fourth a little bit and thats what made your nose dive. And it doesn't help when you overshoot the landing
