On automobiles, you always disconnect the battery. I would do the same on the quad just to be safe. You don't want to be frying your Pod. Also, be sure to prep the area good before you start. Other than that, you should be ready to go.

You had better disconnect the battery and cdi or you'll be buying a new cdi. I was at a race once and had to weld my frame. I was in such a hurry I forgot to disconnect the cdi, and ended up having to shell out the bucks for a new one.

Prep the area too, and be very careful with the steel tubing. Its realtively thin and you can make a mess in a hurry.

The electricty should just go back through the ground cable. I would still disconnect the battery though

The stator only has current when its spinning, you should be fine on that.

I agree with maddog. I've welded on my frame and the stator was fine. As a matter of fact, I'll be welding on it tomorrow

Ive welded on hundreds of vehicles and atvs and almost never diconnect anything. No electrical device has ever had a problem. Just keep your ground clamp as close as possible to the weld itself so there is no chance of current running through any wires.

I have welded the frames on all of my quads and never disconnected anything. I wouldn't worry about it.
