well i was going to weld a plate to the frame of my '03 sp 600 and was just wondering what you need to do before you weld to the frame like disconnect the battery or mabey you shouldnt do it at all either, i dont know.....using a wire feed welder if that matters with up to 130 amps.....any ideas??????

On automobiles, you always disconnect the battery. I would do the same on the quad just to be safe. You don't want to be frying your Pod. Also, be sure to prep the area good before you start. Other than that, you should be ready to go.

so you dont think that electricity should be able to travel backwards threw grounds connected to the frame or will all of the electricity go thew the ground cable on the welder if you have it close to were you are welding...thanks for reply

You had better disconnect the battery and cdi or you'll be buying a new cdi. I was at a race once and had to weld my frame. I was in such a hurry I forgot to disconnect the cdi, and ended up having to shell out the bucks for a new one.
Prep the area too, and be very careful with the steel tubing. Its realtively thin and you can make a mess in a hurry.

Ive welded on hundreds of vehicles and atvs and almost never diconnect anything. No electrical device has ever had a problem. Just keep your ground clamp as close as possible to the weld itself so there is no chance of current running through any wires.
