Hey. I have an '85 250R. I've been using HP-2 for a while. I just had it bored slightly and when I was at the shop picking up the jug everyone there told me I should use Yamalube 2R. Does anyone have an opinion about which is the better oil? I found it strange that a Honda shop was recommending Yamaha oil. Thanks for any opinions.

I use to use HP2 in my R and the oil seemed too thick and gummy. I noticed this more in the winter so I switched to Spectro and fouled less plugs. Now I run AMSOIL 50:1 and have had good results. I just put in some new rings and there was very little carbon build up.

Since your R doesn't have a powervalve, run Castor 927 @ 40:1. Best protection for a 2-stroke.

I used to run 2R and always fouled plugs. I am now using HP2 and I have yet to foul a plug in the 1 year I have been using it.

Our dealer who sells HOnda & Yamaha recommended the Yamalube 2R for my kids quad & its a two stroke. We haven't fouled any plugs, yet.

Where can a person find oil like Amsoil or Castor 927? My local dealer has nothing like that. Thanks.

Castor 927 is available from shops that carry Maxima products.
