Default Buying 1st ATV

Hi: I am looking for a basic used ATV (250 2x4) to putter aroung the cottage and bring the kids for a ride. Price is key here as I want to spend no more than $2000. I am looking at the Suzuki LTF250 ('90) or the Honda trx 250. Any thoughts on these ATV's? This will be my first ATV purchase. The ATV will only be used on weekends for about 4 months out of the year as we do not go to the cottage in the winter. Any tips for 1st time buyers would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Cheers,
Canuck1

get a 250ex

auto clutch, so you only have to shift with your foot...it has a shaft drive, not a chain, so it'll run forever. honda is also the king of reliability, that quad's basically a tank...do what you want with it, it'll run forever

You may also want to consider the Kawasaki Bayou,it has a diff. lock that makes it posi or not, makes it easier on the lawn plus it can turn on a dime.

He wants to spend $2000. I don't think it's too easy to find a 250ex for $2000. You might be able to find a Recon 250 (with racks) for around $2000.

I think I want to lean more towards the utility side of things. Correct me if I am wrong but the 250ex is more sporty?????

yeah, the 250ex is kind of an introductory quad before you get into performance.

Thanks everyone for all the recomendations!! I will shop around and make the best choice that I can. I am in no hurry so time is on my side. I think late fall should be a good time to buy as the season is drawing to a close and people are looking for snowmobiles! As soon as I make my purchase I am sure to add more postings.

Cheers

Im sure if you keep an eye out in the ad packs and the sunday paper you can find a bigger utility quad for under 2k. be patient also thats a big key to getting somthing decent, I know im always inpatient cause im young and I was about 5 hours away from going to sign my soul over to the yamaha shop to get a Blaster for about 3600$ and 90$ a month payments till payed off... then I found a LT250R For 400$ Just got lucky I guess.

SO yeah check the papers for sure.
