Spark Arrester removal on a 400ex
#1
My buddy has a 2001 400ex and removed his spark arrester from the end of his tail pipe. Mine is a 2003. He told me it added horsepower. We raced and I beat him by a tire length. Does this indeed add power and I just hooked up better than he did? The quads seem to be equal in hill climbing/dragging/wheelies etc.

We raced about five times and his machine is far from warn out. It was either dead even, or I beat him ay a boot length or he beat me by the same. I know less restricter is good, but not enough back pressure isn't good either. I rode his and he rode mine and neither of us could truly feel the difference.

I recently went to the dunes in st anthony and was told to take my airbox lid off for more hps. I did it and it was way louder but it was not faster not to mention all the sand that went into my airbox. It actually felt slower to me. The front end didn't lift up in second like it did with the airbox lid on. I don't know how effective these budget mods are.

Doing this isn't going to make a difference in power, only sound. It could possibly warp ur exaust valves. If you want to be loud and faster, buy an aftermarket exhaust.

Get an HMF pipe, nice and loud, sure to **** off the neighbors.

there are many many factors to think about when comparing 2 bikes side by side. Ex: mods to the bikes, rider weights, gearing, rider ability, proper throttle cable adjustments, shape/brand/and psi in tires, etc
