1988 four trax 300 stalling problems
#1
Just looking for any quick advice anyone may be able to offer.I recently bought a 88'four trax300
It had been in storage for over 10 yrs. The person I bought it from told me how they boiled out the carb.and so forth. It is in unbelivable condition,However I am haveing stalling problems that occur when rideing or at idle it does not seem to matter. Then it will fire right back up and go just fine . Now just tonight it stalled and would not start until i let it sit four an hour of so. So I am looking for anyone that may point me in the right direction as what to do. Please take in to acount I am not very handy with engines or mechanics in general.thank you in advance. Scott Rosse

Welcome to the forums.
Keep a spare spark plug along for the next time it stalls. Pull the spark plug wire off, the one in the motor, hook up your spare one, hold it against the aluminum cylinder, and spin over the motor. This will help troubleshoot whether you have a spark problem or a carb problem. If you have spark, put the wire back on the one in the motor and try to start. If it wont start, youve got a carb problem.
Most atvs, need about 1/8 to 1/4 throttle open, when the motor is hot, to start. Try starting with the throttle open abit, and see if that helps.
