foun 5 scrammys things to look for when buying and comparisons.
#1
I found 5 scrammys at a dealer 300miles from my town this week, and I want to go look at them they range from 2000-2002 and 2000.00 to 2800.00 4 are 400's one is a 500. I have decided the 400 is a better machine for me as I want to mod this bike. my riding will primarily be firetrail and powerline trails with the occasional trail ride.
What should I look for? any reoccring issues? think I should tell the dealer I want compression tests on them?
Also I would like to do a this verse that. I would like honest opinions of some other quads in an order. and how they stock up to each other.

yes,you would bring your compression tester and check the scraamy you want it,120 psi is poor 100 psi is junk.for the need you want to acheive
you'll have to remove a lot of stuff to get it especially faster,no major
problems on 00 to 02 as the most parts has been updated back then.
i'm not sure about what to say comparing it to manual sport quads, they're
wheelers from their own.the ease of riding and the big potential
the 400 have can end to something realy quick.

Look them over real good. Ride them and run them and listen for strange sounds. Make sure you know what works and does not work on each quad. Are they 2x4 or 4x4 quads. Here are some things that are different in the model years.
Prior to 1998 they did not have the concentric Drive system.
4x4 models had a Chain driven front axle vs shaft.
The Non concentric drive and Front chain drive was well known to be problematic.
So from there here are the updates:
2000 models got 2" more rear suspension travel and a 2 stage rear spring (Nice and soft).Late 2000 models also received updated HEIM style tie rod ends. (Previous Ball & Socket units are known to wear out fast.
2001 models got an updated braking package. (All steel braided lines, Drilled/slotted rotors, Better Reservoir assembly) Also Late 2001 models got and updated steering post, and lower support bearing. (Previous design had a riveted bushing that usually had play straight from the factory.)
2002 models got a life time belt warranty.
2003 models got a spliceless belt and also I believe polaris eliminated some of the grease fitting with LUBE FOR LIFE
