They should fit fine. You WILL notice a power loss. Probably in the 5-10 percent range. Personally, the difference in ground clearance between 26 and 27" tires is only 1/2 inch. I'd go with 26's and save a few pounds of tire weight. :-)

I don't think it will be too bad, unless you are used to pushing your ATV HARD all the time.

In 2004 they did put stronger axels on the 500 so it can handel the extra weight.

Plus, in the 2004 Arctic Cat brochure, it even shows a 500 with the 589's on it.

I say go for it. And on that note, when I go to replace my tires I am going to put on 26 inchers...

It all depends about the 27 inch tires. Do you really need the inch taller tires? Like it was already said, it will only give you 1/2". If you are really into the mud that much, sometimes that 1/2" is all you need. But, it is your choice. When I go to det new tires I am going with 27's. But that is just me. As for power loss, it won't feel to bad.

i had 27 inch 589 ms's on my 500 last year and they fit on very nice my compliments to arctic cat for making sure everything clears with oversized tires but the bad was that it cut my power down so much i could spin them fine in the deep mud but that poor lil 500 motor was working so hard i was running out of gas constatntly i am figuring even road driving my gas mileage got cut down by about 35 percent if i had the 500 and had to do it over again it would deffinately have been the 26's but for the money the 589 ms is a great mud tire also don't rule out the mud lite

Might check on those tire weights. I don't know if Highlifter's tire specs are correct or not, but there isn't much difference between a lot of 26's and 27's.

I went through all of this just a few months ago. If I were you I would put on whatever tire and whatever size you want. With my 27" Mudbugs I can hardly feel any power loss at all. I can tell you that the traction you will gain will make you forget about any power loss you have. I don't remember the weights for the 589's but in the Bugs the 26's and 27' weigh the same so I went for the bigger tire and if I were to do it all over again I would do the same. The tires not only help with traction but make the ATV look way better. I can't tell you if they are hard on parts or not, but at the same time I don't really care, I bought them to make my riding more enjoyable. Hope this helps and I would think about the Bugs.

I bought 27'' mudlites for my 650 and wanted to move its OEM Goodyears (26x11x12/26x8x12) to my 04'400 Auto, will my 400 handle this? I not much on speed but love the mud
