HELP! Electrical short? 99sprts500 after plugging into front accesory port.
#1
I plugged in a small power invertor into the front accesory port and blew something, my electric starter won't work or the dash lights or speedometer. I've checked the fuse under the seat and it's fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Stupid me tried it running and not, and I've never tried to use it before. The 500 still starts with the pull starter but none of the misc electrical components work including the fan.
Any help you can offer will be much appreciated.

Hey Tim, I will look through the Service Manual tomorrow after church and tell you where the fuse and circuit breaker are located. But first question, is the battery at full charge? Second, is the stator still putting out charging voltage to the battery? You can check that by putting a volt meter across the + & - posts on the battery, read the voltage before you start it,....... then start it with the pull rope, and then check the voltage again at the battery terminals. If the stator is charging, and the regulator/rectifier is still good, the voltage should read about 14 volts.
Good luck, and let me know,
Rick

Thanks Rick, I'll go and check the battery and stator output this AM. I found the 2 fuses in the black plastic wrap, one under the seat near the battery (about 6 inches in front of the battery) the other under and behind the battery, seems to be just a connection for an accessory run off the back of the unit.
I hope there's a fuse or breaker somewhere else that I'm not seeing.
thanks again,
tim

Hi Rick, I did check the battery and it's fine, I did also pull start it and checked the output at the battery terminals and it registered 14.5 so it appears the stator and regulator are still working.

Hi Rick,
Did you ever get a chance to look up the wiring/fuse problem in the manual?
