Sportsman HD Coil spring upgrade.
Decided I needed to start pulling the Polaris a part so I can install the Front HD coils.
Since they changed the front storage box in 2011 (mine is a 2012) they molded coil towers into the front box, so the nose height is lowered. They only put 4 rubber drain plugs at the lowest point, 2 on each side. Some people complain that the front box, Not keeping dust or water out, I have never had this problem. But then again, I spray the rubber seal with silicone lube a few times a year, really helps.
Rather than get lazy and drill out the top of the towers, I learned from the last time I pulled it apart. Pull 8 body plugs, 4 bolts, 4 torx screws, spin off the gas cap and you can lift the plastic off. No need to pull the grill or headlight bezels off.
Gonna check the brakes too, and while apart, the plug looks easy as pie, so I will do it too. I have 3,000 miles on the original NGK, so no changing brands. I may run the iridium though.
Also will get a cleaning while I have it a part.
I bought 2 hook less ratchet straps from Princess Auto to do the coils. Not spending $26 on a coil compressor that I'll never use again.
Will send more as I go.
Picked up the Polaris HD coils from my dealer for $75. Also bought a Primary puller from them. Will post separate threads for clutch cleaning.

HD springs are nice on the rears also. With stock springs my IRS lost a lot of ground clearances if the rear rack was loaded heavy or pulling a trailer on our fishing/Camping trips even on the stiffest setting.
Now its no problem, but once the work is done you have to dial down the springs preload a few notches because its to stiff and rough for general trail riding.

Thanks TLC. What brand rear coils did you use? We still want to take a long ride, thinking I may get one of those hitch racks, or use a small trailer. My fears are still on the soft setting.

I bought the Polaris Brand HD springs , the dealer actually sold them at almost the same price that I could find them on line.
Here is us loaded down , we all bought HD springs for this reason, we are camping 15 miles from the trucks.
They guy on the Grey Sportsman has HD front only Notice how he is squatted down on the rear.

My Polaris has front Mudlite 25" with the aggressive XL lug now, the rear are the stock Goodyear P-Trackers but they need changing after 3000 miles I may need to buy rear rims because there is not much tire choices with its 10" rear rims.

How do you like the mud lite xl? Are they a good all around tire?
If you can go up to a 12" rear, itp delta steels can be had for under $50 each.

I like the XL they are compo Mud and trail with a 1-1/8th" lug. The Mudlite "AT" are 3/4" lug good general trail riding and the "XXL" are more Mud tire with 1-1/4" lugs.
I may just get a Interco Swamp Lite with a 1" lug because the sell a 25-11-10 then I do not need a rim change. http://www.mud-throwers.com/inc/sdetail/6602/5628.
The Mazzis Zilla are nice because they are the lightest 6ply tire with a aggressive lug but none for 10" rims. I had 26" on my first 350 Grizzly.

I am still mulling tire choices, but think I will get Traction Grippers come spring. Maxxis Zillas are my second choice.

Like the Price (Canadian) and owner reviews on them. They must be light because one person mentioned the 29" were just 30lbs.
well i have know had these tires on for 4 month and i tell you i have had all types og mud tires like interco swamp lites and bear claws and itp mud lites and as far as i am concerned they all are rough riding tires these traxion gripper have been unreal in all conditions and ride nice i was up in the rocky mountian above revelstoke bc for a week and they prefrom great better than any tire i have own all i can say very great tire and unreal price
