Default Rear Gearcase oil question - '04 700 EFI

I was checking my front and rear gearcase levels today.

Is rear gearcase oil supposed to look almost like "No Seize" compount? I noticed front gearcase was oil like but rear was a very grey looking grease.

Thanks!

Probably extra metal (normal) due to the fact the rear diff is always spinning. Mine had much more metal than the front. Maybe you had a bit of water/condensation in there too?

something does not seem right. It must be contaminated from something ? . I would simply drain it all out and re fill it with the recommended oil.

Default Rear Gearcase oil question - '04 700 EFI

There was extra metal but I had expected that. I cleaned magnet up. ATV hasn't been in any substantial water or mud. Nothing more than a few inches below the footwells. I mainly trail ride. I wonder if it came from the factory this way. I only have about 470 miles on it. Nothing seems abnormal from rear end and no sounds.

Anyone know what the Amsoil equivalent for rear end lube would be?

Thanks!

Is it correct that transmission and rear gear case use the same lube on '04 700 EFI? Only the front gearcase uses a different hub drive oil?

Thanks!

I just put a new LH axle seal in mine....and yep... 260 miles and a whole pile of really fine metal shavings...looked just like anti seize compuound....must be normal. but then again I've had a lot of problems with this atv...fuel pump, axle seal and, 4wd stuck on all the time...but it looks like these problems are unfortunately pretty common with this avt

The Tranny is special fluid, use the polaris stuff, the rear diif takes a good grade of 80-90 (or better) gear oil. I use mobile 1 synthetic gear lube. By the way, check your vent tube and make sure its intact and not blocked or routed incorrectly.

The transmission and rearend on the 700 EFI take the Polaris AGL fluid.

My rearend looks like anti-seize also. I thought I was the only one. lol. The magnet gets full each time I put the plug back in. I'm sure a lube change is needed, I'm just waiting for it to warm up so I can change it, its like molasses. Suppose to get to 45 tomorrow, do it then.
I'm gonna use a GL5 80W-90 lube, the same stuff you use in the rear diff of most vehicles. Synthetic would be best, but I might use penzoil's conventional lube first, for a few miles to clear the gears of all the metal and then put mobil 1 synthetic in it.

Mine [04.5 700, 670 miles] also looked like molasses. I am glad I am not the only one. Also, book says 5 oz but I put the whole 8 oz in and it did not seem to run out. Guess I should change it a couple more times until it stays clean? Hopefully nobody had a gear failure after finding this ?
thx
