300 4x4 smoked bad
#1
last year when parked nose-down, idling on a very steep hill, my '03 300 AC started blowing unmistakeable oil smoke. I had it towed back to camp to avoid any further damage. Everyone seemed to think the motor was toasted. When I took it to the dealer under warranty a couple days later, the smoking had stopped and it has run fine ever since (almost 100 miles since then). Of course, they can't fix what they can't diagnose, so I have been left to wonder what might have happened. Does anyone have any idea about what might have caused this? Is there a way for oil to get into the cylinder when the machine is on a steep incline? Does it seem like something that might have caused any lasting damage? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey man, Mine did the same thing about 2 monthes ago. I had been messing around and a little bit of oil leaked out earler and then i was going down this hill and i looked back and noticed that a cloud of smoke was following me. I assumed that i blew it up and let get towed of the hill and then i tried to start it on level ground and it ran fine without any problems. I just drove it back home and changed the oil and everything has been fine since.

Check the oil level. Some quads are very picky about even a little extra oil, mine will suck it up the vent and blow it into the air box if I put a little too much in,it is possible your Cat has a PCV type valve that feeds crankcase fumes into the intake, that would put oil vapor into the cylinder and burn as oil smoke. I'm no Cat mechanic, but a lot of quads will do that if overfilled, especially if revved high or put at a steep angle, like hill climbing.
