Default 2000 AC500 Auto?

We have a 2000 AC 500 Auto. It idles just fine but once you push on the throttle and the clutch engages or moves then an awful growling comes from the clutch area. does anyone know what is causing this growling? We haven't taken it apart yet but was hoping someone could give me some idea on what to look at.

Thanks,

It may be one of your bearings on the clutch cover....check that first.......

Default 2000 AC500 Auto?

ttaylor, i had the same thing happen to my 2000 500 Auto. it is a nut on the clutch that didnt get torqued enough at the factory. if it is making that noise then the splines on the back clutch are slipping on the shaft and that is not good. get it looked at before it lets go and sends the clutch out of the tranny cover and whatever you do DO NOT take the cover off and run the atv. if the cltch lets go with the cover off it could get real ugly. it cost me about $1200 to get every thing fixed on mine. i have not been a fan of the auto tranny since then.

We took the clutch cover off and checked the bearings. They were tight and operated freely. I checked the clutch it didn't seem loose. Do you guys know what the torq specs are for the clutch? Also, what are the torq specs for the clutch cover bolts?
Thanks,

racnooc,
We did operate the clutch without the cover I guess we were lucky because nothing happened. I tried to wiggle the clutch to see if was loose in any way. I couldn't even get it to budge. If you guys know the torq specs for the nut on the clutch I will check that tonight.

Thanks,

It was the same with my bike when i took the cover off too, everything felt tight but it wasnt. i dont know the torque specs for any of the bolts, used the universal german torque for the cover bolts (gootantight). normally i do my own mantenence but this was beyond my skills to fix.
