Default northern IL stealerships are SO FRUSTRATING!

the way i work, is if a certain dealership is full of jack@sses, but has a quad 300 cheaper than joe schmoe, who is freindly with good service, im gonna spend the 300 more on joe schmoe....

my problem? I CANT FIND ANY JOE SCHMOES! its ridiculous.... im selling my 03 baja, quad im considering: 2003 cdale (atk updated 450 motor) for 4500 OTD (thats with shipping to me)
2003 Cdale (also atk updated with reliablity kits and 450 ) OTD for 5000
Polaris predator.... there are 7 dealerships within 60 miles. I just called all 7. I got everything from people sighing on the phone they had to actually lift a finger to crunch numbers on the calc..... i got guys saying they were just "too busy" and that i woudl have to drive in. (i told each dealership, who i was, what im looking for, and that im only calling around to find the best price, even though i was also looking to see how i was treated at each place.)

i found two decent prices.... 5,589 bucks OTD for a 2004 TLD (after the polaris 500 rebate which ends i think at end of the month)
i dont know if he truly gave me an OTD price though... as the next guy i called said he couldnt touch that, as his invoice was somthing like 5,500... But this guy said he could get me an 05 TLD otd for 6433.31.

its funny, because most of the @SS dealerships were all the ones who basically took msrp and slapped the tax/title/doc fees on...without even taking into consideration i was calling 7 other dealerships to compare prices. (my highest otd for an 05 tops 7k!)

the main reasons i didnt consider an ew 05 bomb...was due to price, and the fact i dislike almost ALL the dealerships within an hour from me. (i have seen maggots get better treatment then they gave me) but the price otd for the 05 X was 7050, to 7200 (varied 100-200 between the 3 dealers)

i dont know what to do now.... i have a 2003 cannondale moto setup for a test ride this weekend. (hes asking 4k for it.... i know its a hardcore basically strictly mx quad...but thought what the heck.... even if i decide i dont want that model, i will at least have some exposure to how a cannondale operates.

i keep thinking, if i were to buy another DS...i could basically sell my ds nearly stock....keep my ported intake, cdi, all 3 sets of tires, and filter. (and maybe the brand new odyssey batt i just had to buy for my mine, as my NEW yuasa crapped out after 2 weeks)

i really LOVE the price on the cdale.... they are going to be titled as 05 atk's so the resale shouldnt be too horrible (and even if its low, i will only have 4500-5k into it)

i just see myself getting the ds...and having the same issues over again. Then i see myself on the predator (same carb as ds which is cool because i havel ike 50 jets and quite a bit of tinker time under my belt with the bsr 42) but it is a carb.... but, the whole idea of having my laptop mouse do all the work for me just rocks. (being able to diagnose problems, change maps for crazy torque, or super top end within 10 minutes seems awesome)

i know there are still a few kinks in the cdales though. (if there wernt those few problems floating around i would probably buy one) whatever quad i get, i dont paln to do much to it, as i DONT want problems. now that im in college i dont have the time to wrench constantly.

i know there are a few of you in my area....anyone suggest dealerships? (the only dealership i actually TRUST right now is my local yam shop, too bad i have such a hate for the yfz..)

thanks guys.

Roost,

Both of my DS' have been - perfect - as have most of the DSs everyone else on here owns, so I think if you get another you'll likely have no issues with it. Having said that; I can fully understand your lack of trust and even knowing everyone else has a great running machine you probably feel like you'll get lucky (in a bad way) buying another one. Not to mention you hate all of the local Bombardier dealerships to you. (Again, I don't go to my dealership, so I don't see this as a problem.)

One thing I know about dealerships is that they DO NOT want to deal over the phone; they want you there in person, ready to buy. My suggestion is when you go into one dealership looking at say the Predator or whatever, walk in, find the first sales person you can as you are standing next to the machine and tell him very direclty that you would like to BUY this machine. You have no questions, you have nothing to look at or him and haw about, but that you are here this minute to BUY the machine. When you walk in with this sort of conviction and they think you are serious they get real interested, real quick. I walked into my Local Bombardier dealership with that attitude, and since it was a Saturday they wouldn't quite come down to the price I wanted, but they sure would talk. Sunday about mid day they called me and said they would do it at my price. (I think they wanted to wait till the end of the weekend to see if they could sell it at a higher price.) So if you walk into one of these dealerships tomorrow, ready to buy then I think they'll listen. The only catch is you have to be 100% sure and also know your price. I know that in early 2003 $6900 was a good price on a 2003 DS650 Baja, and that is what I told each dealership I would pay, and that I also wanted to finance it through Bombardier credit (since they had 2.9% financing going on.)

My suggestion is to make up your mind, get your facts & figures straight, then pick a dealer you can at least stand and go in to BUY the machine that minute; when you are that ready to go, they will salivate.

I know how you feel about Yammys, but if your Yammy dealer is the only one that doesn't suck, the YFZ or YZF, ZFY or whatever the hell it is isn't too bad of a choice. OR even (Gasp) a Raptor with about $2000 in aftermarket suspension to make it as wide as the DS.

Look into the new bomb's. New bombs dont have any problems.

Also cash talks if you are able to do that. It gives you a lot of negotiating leverage.

Just like them guys said, know your price, stick to it, and bring your machine in clean and looking good. Just don't be afraid to walk out the door if they don't do your price. Just remember that they are there to screw you over, so don't be afraid to walk away.
