When i hit jumps, me 2003 Recon ES starts to sputter., then dies. It starts fine, but it can only idle, and any more and it dies.It used to do this every once and a while, but now it happens here 30 minutes of riding. Its really getting annoying. PLease help, im trying to sell it and this really wont help.

 

My recon did that a few times before I rebuilt the motor. I think it's from overheating, but i'm not sure. This problem went away after the rebuild. Did you change your oil recently? If you didn't it could be causing more friction and heat, causing the overheating issue.

 

I think that the honda dealer got it fixed, but how/ where did you get all that work done. i have been thinking about rebuilding it, but where do you get the stuff. also want to bore it, but thats a ways down the road.

 

I got mine rebuilt and worked on at a local powersport shop. With the top end being rebuilt and a new clutch I spent about $600, but it would have been less if my frame wasn't broken. All of the replacement parts except the clutch had to be purchased directly from honda, but my motor was getting to the point that the piston was flopping around inside the cylinder, and all the valves were completely shot. Yours being much newer, it probably wouldn't cost nearly as much.

 

Turns out there was a bunch of crud in the main jet in the carb
