Brute Force gear noise vs Prairie gear noise?
#1
I just bought a Prairie 700 yesterday, and now I am curious as to whether or not the Brute Force has the same amount of gear noise from the straight cut gears in the transmission as the Prairie does. This Prairie is LOUD! I have driven 1970s International tractors with less gear noise than this Prairie, LOL.
I actually like the gear noise, in a strange comforting kind of way. It reminds me of the gear noise from a gear driven cam in a big block chevy truck I had way back when ...
I sure like the handling on this Prairie though. I put 26" Holeshot ATRs on it before I brought it home, and this ATV handles like it is on rails. I rode across a sidehill section of trail yesterday that I always hated with my Grizzlys, because it was such a steep sidehill that I would have to get off the seat and stand with both feet on the uphill floorboard in order to not roll the ATV going across the sidehill. Yesterday I rode the Prairie across that sidehill while I was sitting in the center of the seat. I even stopped halfway across, and it didn't even feel close to the balance point. Gotta say I really like the super low center of gravity, and super low seat height of the Prairie for mountain riding more than I did the tall Grizzly. I'm glad I passed on the Brute Force, being as the dealer had one parked right next to this Prairie, and my Grizzly that I traded in, and the Brute Force was easily the tallest of them all .
Sorry to ramble, ... so how noisy are the gears on the Brute anyway?

i don't have a prairie but friends do and i love that whineing sound, makes it seem faster, then i get back on my eiger and have to put it in 4x4 to make that sound lol

My brute is about as loud as my other Kawi's than I owned. In low range it gives you a nice sound at a certain speed and rpm. It sounds like a turbo, its so cool. I have 28" mudlites on my Brute Force, it sits really high now. I don't feel that its to tippy at all, I will be getting some offset rims soon though, it looks weird being so skinny.

Everybody can hear you coming, LOL. I rode mine around a new subdivision near my house, where they have not yet paved the streets, at about dusk yesterday. I was just cruising slow (at the perfect speed to make the gears really whine), and some construction workers roofing a house two blocks away stopped what they were doing and turned around and looked to see what was making the "turbo whine". That sound really carrys a long ways on a quiet evening .
