Default Need tire advice for my B.F.

I'm trying to pick between ITP 589's and Mudlites.

I also want a 27" or 28"

I do a lot of trail riding, with the ocassional mud here and their. The Mud is pretty good at times though. I do go riding one place that is almost and all mud... DEEP AND STICKY TO!!

I really like the 589's, but would a 28" put a lot more strain on my front end components? Would a 28" be bad news for trails and such?

I like the Mudlites because of their weight and people say they do ride better.

Any advice?

I like the handling better on gravel roads and rutted trails with the stock tires. The traction is great in mud with my 26" mud lights but loose power. I have extra rims and switch back and forth.

keep in mind Bama....ya might not really need a 27" or 28" tire on a brute...with the extra clearance they afford. I'm running 25" ATR's/C-series....and absolutely love them....I don't have any troubles following others with a little bigger tire on their bike. Plus, I tried my 27" mudlites on the BF for a day....and "to me" I much rather the smaller, better riding ATR's.......but everyone likes something different too though.

Hey travelor, you have the dyna jet. How do you like it. Does it make a difference without the K/N filter.

Hey Bama... here's my 2 cents:

I have the 26" 589's on black aluminum rims ( check my photos theres a couple shots of them here ). So far, I have been very happy with the performance of the tires. Sure, steering takes a little more effort at slow speeds but once yer going it's not bad at all. Plus, the extra 2" width on the rears pretty much eliminates any tippiness that the brute has. This thing is stable as a block of steel now.

At higher speeds, say over 40mph, the handlebars wil wiggle just a bit...nothing out of the ordinary and it doesn't bother me a bit. The REAL key is that the 589's will blast through the nastiest stuff you can find. I have gone through some serious muck, guck, and sluck without even thinking twice about it. I think that in the worst conditions, the 589 is a little better performer than the Mudlites. The 'Lites may ride nicer at speed, but I was willing to trade that for better serious mud & snow traction. I'm in upstate NY and the weather is getting sloppy so the 589's will shine from here on out.

Once the dry summer months hit, the 589's will be swapped out for a good "summer" radial tire.

Mike

I have the same wheels and tires and I love them too. from the pictures I couldn't tell how deep the tread was, but I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived. these things have a lot of meat, handle great and hook up real well. only thing I don't like is the handlebars wobble at certain speeds on the street, you dont feel it in the dirt though. they are probably out of ballance.
