Default Rope Start for 700

Has anyone tried to make the recoil starter from the military 700 work on a standard 700? I would really like to have a backup system. Thanks!

Why? I have 4 polaris machines, with a combined total mile of over 20,000 miles. The oldest machine is a 2000 sp 500 with about 8500 miles on it. Not once have I needed the pull starter.

With no compression release, would you be able to pull it over if you had it?

That's one reason I have stayed with the 500. I have needed my recoil a few times in the past. Will be interesting if you could rig one up on the bigger bikes.

With no compression release, would you be able to pull it over if you had it?
If you were in the middle of the mountains, 50 miles away from anything, could you pull it over if you had to. I bet I could.

man, I doubt you could pull it. I have a 750 and I'm sure it has a compression release built in and it takes all I've got to pull it fast enough to start the bike, and I'm linebacker size.

It could be done. They are on the SP700MV so obvioulsy you can pull it on that.

Umm, yeah it works with EBS. 500HO's have EBS and backup recoil starters. I will say that I havent had to use mine yet but I might have to soon. Went to start my quad the other day and the starter "free spun" the first two times I engaged it, then on the third it cranked.

Guess I'll eat my words in another post and be happy that I have a recoil backup.
