Rope Start for 700
#22
The MV700 is carbeurated. I think this is in part to allow it to be pullstarted. Most likely, the system on an EFI would need more power to fire than the charging system could deliver if pull started. This is assuming that you're pulling it because the battery is dead, which would also be a considerable load on the charging system. A pull start is definately nice to have, more for piece of mind than anything else. Jumper cables are a good idea if you're with someone else, if not one of those small booster packs is worth carrying if you're by yourself.
I agree that a pull start may seldom be used. Like your car, or streetbike, as long as you maintain your battery, you shouldn't have to worry. Riding alone is not a great idea anyhow, but if you do I think that a pull start, or booster pack is a must.
Just my .02

So if i can put a rope on it i want to.Maybe for a piece on mind.

There are a variety of different EFI setups out there. It would make sense that on a machine such as an ATV or sled they would use a system which did not depend on battery power to start, but I don't know what kind of system exactly is used on these machines. Another thing to consider is that in some cases, the pull start will get the engine running, but the battery has some power, just not enough to crank the engine over.
These are just my opinions and ideas as I don't know exactly how this particular system works.

99.9% you could not rope start the EFI 700 (if the battery was completely dead) Polaris because of the electric fuel pump. When you first turn the key on you can hear the fuel pump cycle on. The snowmobiles (Arctic Cat) that don't use a battery don't use the same style fuel pump as the SP 700 EFI.

Here's a thought. The fuel pump could and should be setup to run on a much lower voltage say 6 VDC. Then if the battery is low and not able to crank the engine it would probably still have enough power to run the fuel pump. In this case a pull start would work just fine.
Just a thought.

I have not tried it or heard of anyone doing it. It would be a cool mod if you could pull it off at a minimal cost. would be a nice secondary start but to be honest with you I can't see why you would need it unless you plan on your starter wearing out in the middle of the woods.
