Default green clutch spring

i have a stock 400 scrammy, i would like it to engage higher . it has to much top end for my riding type (lots of mud, hills) i feel its very slugish out of the hole. i was reading some past threads, seems the green one is what i need. am i on target or not???

If you were considering the pipe change too, then I would recommend giving Rick Ritter a call like I mentioned in your other thread. His stage 1 kit would be your best bang for the buck

The Green spring will get you a little more engagment and set the secondary at 2-2 and with the stock motor you should be happy.

If a higher engagement is all you want, then maybe look to the plain spring. About the same top rpm but a higher stall. I have run that one before on a stock bike.

Yea i ran the plain spring when my quad was stock. When it was stock it would be hard to get the front tires up on my 250. Then i put the plain spring in and it was a wheelie machine.

have you ran the plain spring in a 400 though. im no expert on cluching but on a car if you run a 4cyl torq converter on a v8 it acts like it has a 5000 stall !!!now i know its not the same thing but its the only way i can describe what im thinking . also what spring is stock on my scrammy??

big bad scram , i value your input on the stg 1 kit but i dont want to spend all that cash . i might get the gain im lookin for from a spring for now . but i may look in to that kit next year

I ran the plain spring in a 99 400 Sport. Clutch springs do not work anything like a torque converter in a car. Springs are related directly to pressure and that is created by centifugal force in proportion to engine RPM. So it is engine speed and not engine torque that is the primary factor. Now if you took a bike with a pipe and ported it, then you can take advantage of the torque and power gain and re-clutch it to put more power to the ground. It could cause the engine rpms to raise slightly, but the clutch is designed to react quickly. Hope that helps,Bubba
