Default rear shock spring?can I remove what looks like a helped spring at the top

subject sums it up, n my 2002 scrammy If I look at the rear shock at the top f the rear spring theres what looks like a helper spring. Its about a 2 or 2.5 inch spring that looks to be seperate from the main spring. how do I get the spring seperated from the shock? Does anyone see any ill effects of removing this second spring?

I am a light rider only about 150 pounds and I have my rear shock set at 0 preload. I would like to get my scrambler lower to improve cornering and have yet to need all the ground clearance of my stock setup. This seems like an easy way to get what I want.

If I can't do this, I have been told the rear shock of a 95 scrambler is shorter and the bottom mount is located differently and I can get 2inches lower with the older shock design. I know this works but removing the "helper" as I have decided to call it spring looks easier.

you cant remove the spring..if you wanna lower it get a extended swingarm with the shock mount moved back some..

a swing arm is an expensive option though. I will probable try to find an after market or stock shock from a pre 2000 for the rear. its two inches shorted whihc is all I am looking for.

last option would be to relocate the front shock mount.

You can remove the spring but I wouldn't.When the spring is removed the spring you left on will move around when you jump and land. Also the clip that holds it all together can fall off with no pressure to hold it on.You can use a spring off a 99 scrammy and it will lower it drasticlly. It will almost put the swingarm level to the ground. The 99 shock is 8.5"s where as the 2000-up is 10.5"s.All polaris did was move the mount back and put in a longer shock.I did this on my scrammy and it did wonders for drag racing.Still wheelied but not as bad. When you lower the rear you must also lower the front.More on that later.

it sounds like you are describing a dual rate coil over spring.....removing it will ruin its performance
