Have used for about 10 years. They work really good most of the time. Depends on terrain a lot. A must have in my book if you have younger kids riding with you. We use them to tell rest of our party if someone is coming down the trail, or which trail we are taking. Also helps keep party together if anyone has problems. With the kids, you can talk to them about how they are riding and help them through some rough spots.

Started out with the 49mhz now have the 900's.

I got mine this spring ane we love ours, travelling across Newfoundland the better half could keep track of me as I was last and always stopping to pick blueberries and let the dust settle. I always knew I could catch up in very short time if necessary. Like was stated in depends on where you are, but about one half mile is about as far as mine work.

marylandatv,

Our group of five has used the Platinum 900 for just about one year. Over all I am pleased with the units… You can order them two ways a.) stock with two channels (1&2) both of them being public and b.) with a private club channel (1) and a public channel (2). We ordered five units and they did not charge for the club channel. They perform very well in all weather condition and no one has had any problems to date. One person did have to get a new cord, but it was covered under warrantee and they promptly shipped him two even though he only requested one. The range is more like a half mile or less in the woods, but is still worth their weight in gold. They are a big time saver and have probably saved a few head on collisions. Not to mention we some times accidentally ride in patrolled areas (lol) and have been a great tool to coordinate our escape. Some other befits are you can attach your MP3 player and cell phone (with voice activation) to the units.

We have used them for almost 2 years now. I am a firm believer in them. When we ride in a group my husband is usually up front and I bring up the rear - for that reason, we're the ones with the commuincators. They're invaluable. They are an essential part of our riding gear. They come with a 3 yr. warranty, and the company really stands behind the product. We have the 900's also. Nothing out there comes close (IMO) (Mrs. Q)

Marylandatv,

Just a thought but maybe a cup and string system would work. Suppose you get a set of those heavy-duty plastic party cups and some of that strong nylon string with some type of spring system ridged up for those sudden stops. In the cold weather you could probably even use Styrofoam cups.

QUICK GROUP! TURN AROUND! THERE IS A CRAZY HUNTER AIMING HIS GUN AT US AND JUMPING IN HIS JEEP FOR THE CHASE! BECAUSE ANTHONY LEAD US DOWN THE WRONG TRAIL!!~LOL
Hey! How about some kind of magaphone set up? I know you would hear me!-lol And they make them a lot smaller now? They are also cheaper then the Collett 900s and they can be easily hear over the engine as well as every one in the group can hear you with no problem and doesn't need one!? Let see if we get two? One for the back and front will save?~LOL

There are a few in my group I think this weekend that want to check out the FRS radios with earphones and see how they work? Its worth a try and I know some just don't want to drop 180 bucks yet. I'm sold on the Collett Communicators myself I'm just waiting for a few others to get on board?
