I put AMSTEEL Blue on my winch a few months ago. So far so good but I've only used it once to pull out a buddies quad. I like the fact that it doesnt really flat spot the way cable can but you do have to be carefull not to have something sharp rub against it. I'll have a better review after winter using it with my plow.

Sorry forgot to mention, ebay. Got it from this guy, probably one of the one's you tried to contact. All went well with the transaction for me.

I would get a factory replacement cable from the manufacturer, if you need a warn cable I have seen them in the cabelas catalog for about 40 bucks.

I've heard of the synthetic ropes befor. I hear thy are great. stronger and lighter, but you do have to watch for sharp objects though.

I use amsteel all the time for rigging props at work.
I also have it as tow rope in my truck and sportsman/scrambler.
You can call patti at Desert rigging (702)798-5559 here in las vegas and she'll hook you up.
You can put more amount(length) on the same drum. Also you can go with a smaller dia. rope but more strengh than the same size cable.

I've been using the "rope" now for just about a year. I got it during the middle of the winter season last year and it held up great. Not to mention I've also used to for pulling downed trees up over a hill side so I could use the firewood for my father in-law. So far the "rope" isn't showing any signs of wear really. I would recommend it to anyone and whenever this one wears out I'll certainly replace it with another one. I did however change from to roller head to the smooth fairlead. IT was recommended and probably better as when looking at the rope while winching I guess it's possible the rope could slip between the rollers and break but don't know. I got my rope from ebay but got the hawse fairlead from another site. http://www.okoffroad.com/stuff-winchrope-atv.htm They also have the rope listed as well.

Default replacement winch cable?

since I use my winch alot[lots of muskeg] I found that it was too much of a pain to have so much wire on[50'] so i cut it down to 20' and have lots of webing to get the further distances. It seemed that to get it to wind up perfectly took along time, and if I didnt wind it up good it got crushed when putting a load on it. Now its all good...I may even go with jus 15 ' on there in the future.
