CREEPING WHEN IDLING ON HONDA FOREMAN 450
#1
I am relatively new to ATV's. I have just gotten my second one, a 2002 Honda Foreman 450 manual shift. I traded from a Fourtrax 300. My new machine wants to creep forward slowlywhen idling in gear. This happens in reverse or forward rears. I did not have this problem with my smaller one and I am wondering if this is normal to the larger engine or if I need to adjust the clutch????? Can anyone shed some light on this. Thank you.

Nope, not normal.
Idle speed may be too high. It should be 1500 plus or minus 100.
If thats not too high...hows the oil? Is it the correct type and viscosity? When was it changed last?
Could also be the clutch adjustment. Loosen the nut, screw out the screw, until you feel resistance. Go back in, 1/4 turn, and snug the nut.

I agree. The idle was a little high on my 04 Foreman 450s and it would also creep. Also it was extremely hard to get out of reverse and back to nuetral and forward gears. I did idle the engine down and now it shifts great and doesnt creep anymore. I have noticed when cold and you go through the gears the clutch jerks like it doesnt disengage all the way..but after a few shifts its fine. I guess the oil needs to get warmed up a bit..

double check ur clutch adjustment. it should have between 1/8 and 1/4 in of slack (on most bikes). i had the same problem on my 300ex and tried a few dif. things but found out it was simply the clutch adjustement.
