collecting firewood
#1
I am searching for an inexpensive alternative to use my ATV for collecting firewood in the woods. I have thought about starpping a heavu duty Rubbermaid tub to the rear rack But getting the wood out of a deep tub might be a pain. Any ideas guys & gals? Trailers? Drop side bins? Thanks!!

What kind of ATV do you have?
I just made some firewood carriers that strap on the front and rear racks of my dad's Foreman 450. They are made of 2x4's screwed together and they have 2 2x4's as sides that hold the wood in place. The rear one I made to go over the seat so it doesn't wear into the vinyl and the front one has a guard for the headlight. It will haul 2 good size piles at one time. Hope this helps, rooster

If you've seen a 450 Foreman before, they have rails that come above the rack, in the very front and the very back. I basically doubled up 2 2x4's sitting flat and that got the height above those rails and then I made a guard for the front light and put the sides on, I wanted to make it easily removeable so regular tie downs are what holds them in place. rooster

atvpainter- Consider the rack weight limits.
If I was going to use my quad to haul firewood. I would use a strong trailer. Something that would carry enough wood to make each trip worth the price in gas. Trailers can carry a lot more weight than the racks. Also consider what the weight on a quad does to it's handling. Just make sure the trailer is strong enough to take a beating.
It really depends on the amount of wood you want to collect. If you need something to supply a camp fire then you may not need a trailer. If you are using the wood to heat a house. Use a trailer or a truck.

Have you seen the quad trailers with a plastic tub and larger quad like tires? They are about $300. (I think) but made much better than lawn carts. That's what I would use. Unless you can make something yourself.
