Default collecting firewood

I am searching for an inexpensive alternative to use my ATV for collecting firewood in the woods. I have thought about starpping a heavu duty Rubbermaid tub to the rear rack But getting the wood out of a deep tub might be a pain. Any ideas guys & gals? Trailers? Drop side bins? Thanks!!

What kind of ATV do you have?

I just made some firewood carriers that strap on the front and rear racks of my dad's Foreman 450. They are made of 2x4's screwed together and they have 2 2x4's as sides that hold the wood in place. The rear one I made to go over the seat so it doesn't wear into the vinyl and the front one has a guard for the headlight. It will haul 2 good size piles at one time. Hope this helps, rooster

I built a small trailer, 3'x4', used some lawnmower wheels. cheap and works well.

I was thinking of making a plywood box that would be attached to the rear rack somehow. How did you attached yourbox?

If you've seen a 450 Foreman before, they have rails that come above the rack, in the very front and the very back. I basically doubled up 2 2x4's sitting flat and that got the height above those rails and then I made a guard for the front light and put the sides on, I wanted to make it easily removeable so regular tie downs are what holds them in place. rooster

atvpainter- Consider the rack weight limits.

If I was going to use my quad to haul firewood. I would use a strong trailer. Something that would carry enough wood to make each trip worth the price in gas. Trailers can carry a lot more weight than the racks. Also consider what the weight on a quad does to it's handling. Just make sure the trailer is strong enough to take a beating.

It really depends on the amount of wood you want to collect. If you need something to supply a camp fire then you may not need a trailer. If you are using the wood to heat a house. Use a trailer or a truck.

Have you seen the quad trailers with a plastic tub and larger quad like tires? They are about $300. (I think) but made much better than lawn carts. That's what I would use. Unless you can make something yourself.

I took a couple shots of my ATV trailer. Here are the links...

You'll have to cut and paste the links into you browser address, Angelfire doesn't allow cross linking. Or you can visin one of my ATV sites below, pics and comments are also posted there.
