override button on 500h0
#1
I just bought a 2001 sportsman 500ho. in order to have 4x4 in reverse you must push the override button which can be a pain if your stuck in the mud and trying to get out in reverse. Does anyone know how to bypass the override switch. Any information will be helpfull. thanks....

There are two wires you can splice together. Where the shift indicator is on the tranny. It sorta makes the system think its in foward all the time.
You do loose your shift Indicator lites tho
There is another way you can do this, by removing/bypassing the limiter box. Basically the same method.

Welcome Polaris700sportsman I have a 2003 700 and have done the mod to mine. Its a little different than yours since mine has a different speedo. But I also have the directions for your model but have never done it. The directions I got told how to do both older & newer speedos and it work on mine so the older speedo directions should work for you here they are.
Trace wires from the override button (gray/white & gray/orange) Cut the gray/orange and tape up both ends. Cut the gray/white and tape up the end which goes to the override button. Connect the other end of the gray/white to the red/white (ignition supplied 12v) Done deal

The override kit I got was abbout $6.00 and it only took 1/2hr to put it in. Definatly worth it on older machines and can't hurt on the newer ones either. Just be careful with the thumb in reverse.
