does anyone else still own an xpedition
#1
This is rangerchet. I have been off this forum for a very very long time.
I still own my 2000 xpedition 425. I have 3,000 miles on it. I am suprised it is holding up so well.
Since they don't make them any more. One of these days, no one will own one. does any one
still own one yet? - just checking. rangerchet

I don't own one but I use to own a 2000 SP335. I had 4,180 miles on it when I traded it in for my SP500. I loved the little SP. It may not be the fastest or the biggest but I had a blast with it. The Expeditions were good atvs. They stopped making them because of low demand. Everyone was choosing the polaris's with automatics. I remember the mags always saying how smooth shifting the expeditions were.

still have my old '95 Magnum425 and it still runs like a champ! '95 was the first year Polaris introduced a 4 stroke. bought one of the first ones. runs great like day one.
i wonder who still has a Diesel Sportsman. i almost bought one but the dealer started using it around their yard and scratched it all up.
rangerchet the Xpedition425 was an awesome ATV to. but i don't actually know anyone that bought one.

A good buddy of mine still has his 2001 Xped 425...nice little machine and i think it's got 1600 and some odd miles on it and she still runs strong...they could do without the solid rear action though...

Sold my Xped last month. It was the second one I owned. Bought a 05 700EFI. Loved shifting the Xped, but wanted more power. They were good bikes and took alot of abuse. The one I converted to IRS was one tough bike. Used to love riding that one. Still got the chassis, but the motor is trashed. Wish Polaris would have built the Xped with a bigger motor and IRS. If they would have I would still be riding one.

Artic Cat makes a 425 xpeditiion? I did not know that. I wonder if polaris sold its rights and the spec's of it? Well, I guess I am just a lonely fellow out riding my xpedition 425. I thought it had enough power. Heck, I had it up to 55 mph. before. I have allot of mod's on mine. Like itp magnum billet alluminum rims and 27 inch mudbugs by maxxis. I also have progressive lift front springs I bought from highlifter.
When I put in a K @ N air filter the atv got more power. Only had to clean it and re-oil it once so far. I also have polaris's front bumper I call the crash bumper as I use it to knock down stuff in my way.
For a 5-speed. It did have the very smoothest(best) shifting over all the other brands at the time.
The xpedition only had one draw back and that is the rear axle which gives me less clearance when
your riding in the ruts. But thats what you have to have with shaft drive. No belts. I used to wait around
while the other atv's after getting out of deep water needed to dry there belts. The expedition was always ready to ride. I have pulled out many an atv that was stuck in the mud. I also have a gun rack on it. The rear bumper and the best mod I put on it was EXTRA WIDE MUD GUARDS. It took me 5 hours to remove the stuck mud flaps and put on the extra wide ones. The old mud guards had some rivets and had to becare full not to damage the plastic. Plus not all the holes matched on the new extra wide mud guards and had to drill some extra holes. I do not get muddy though as those extra wide mud flaps pick up all and I mean all the mud. I also have the saddle bag where I can keep a 1/2 pint of rootbeer snoops and a role of toilet paper. My atv is hunting ready and fun to ride in the summer to. I see many other brands of atv's ride around deep mud holes and I still crawl right through the middle.
I think that polaris has perfected their sportsmen 500 H.O. now to the point where all the troubles in those machines are worked out and all nice features on it. My next atv will be the sp 500 h.o.. but not untill the xpedition dies. It still out performs many other brands of atv's and I have never had to walk out of the woods. I just wish that polaris atv's could handle 28 inch tires with out a lift kit which frequently break down so much that most people don't use them. Well its nice to be back on this forum and thanks for letting me know. It looks like I am the lonewolf now. If you see an xpedition 425 in the woods. Wave, it might be me.

good write-up Ranger. BTW, the new fender shape on the Sportsmans allow for much bigger tires. as far as you waiting 'till your Xpedition dies before you get a SP?.....looks like you won't be riding a SP for a looooooong time!LOL!
BTW,i was refering to his needs for a 'bigger motor and IRS and a foot shift'- Artic Cat offers a model to fit "425Xpedition's"(forum member's user name) needs. Artic Cat didn't name it that. sorry for the confusion.
a few weeks back, ArticCat sent me a very nice CD of their product line-up. looked to me like they offer a wide veriety of cc's in EITHER auto OR manual. nice job AC. nice selection.
