does anyone else still own an xpedition

Rangerchet,
I'm running a 2000 425 Xpedition, at least I was until last Saturday when I snapped a rear axle. Had the bike about 2 years now and love it. It was showing about 3700 miles on it when I got it and the previous owner said the speedo hadn't worked in a long time. Some kind of control pod went out, unfortunately it also controls the cooling fan so it just has a toggle switch to turn the fan on and off. Don't really care about knowing miles or speed.
Found out that this is the third axle that has broken and one was bent. From other riders I am hearing that the 27s on stock steel wheels may be too heavy for the axle to handle. Needs tires anyhow, so if I can ever afford to fix it, I'll be dropping back down in tire size as well.
Saw a post about an upgraded axle for a later model Xpedition, anyone know if the 2000 can be adapted to the heavier axle?
27s
warn winch
custom aluminum racks front and rear
gun rack
custom hitch
custom grips
and of course broken axle

I just picked up a 2000 X425. i wasn't sure what to expect from it but after hearing about your experiences, it sounds like i'll have a good little machine. any of you run it in the cold? the one i got came with a plow and after the last snowfall (about 8") i'll be happy to have it

I luv my 2000. Has been a great ride. Only real issue is it had oversized tires, 27s, and they appear to be too big for the axle. It's under tarps right now with a broken axle.
We just had our first decent snow, about 5", in years and no ride to play on :-(
course I'm on crutches so I probably shouldn't be out anyhow, but if it was running I'd try it anyhow!
