Default 05 TRX450R or TRX400EX can't decide

I'm going to be getting a quad this month and really don't know what to get.
Besides the $500 dollor difference in price is one any better than the other?
I really don't race and do mostly fast trail riding, climbing, small jumps and run full throttle in bursts. I've rode the 04 EX's and really didn't like the power band on it seemed guttless and the suspension sucked is the 05 any better?
Is the 05's 450R's power band and suspension any better?
I don't want to get a 05 400EX and have to mod it to perform like a stock 450R.

The 05 EX is $5099 and the 05 450R is $5599

They do have a new 04 EX for $4199

Russ

PS: I don't want to get a Yamaha so don't say that!

You can spend thousands trying to make a 400ex hang with a 450r. I have both, and from what you posted, I say get a 450r.

The only difference between the 05 400ex and the older ones are, the 05 has reverse, 1 tooth smaller than stock sprocket on the front and they changed the headlight style. My 03 keeps up with my buddies 05 no problem, but I did gear my front down too.

Go with the 450 if you already think the 400 is weak

I just thought maybe they put some more "*****" into the 05 EX's than the older models.
How good is the pickup from a dead stop is the 450R. The bike I owned before was a ATC 86 250R. And it would $hit and git when going threw the gears.

Defenatly go with the R, if you are thinking about the 400EX you might as well throw in there the Z400, but the R in my opinion will take it any where, except in the case where you need reverse and electric start. But overall it is faster and quicker than the EX. New technology.

Thats good to know. I really liked my ATC 250R until I did an endo at around 40 MPH and it landed on my head. Luckly I got knocked out or I probably wouldn't get any kind of bike.

Ummm, not a trike! Russb, the EX won't even come close to the stock power of your old trike. 85-86 ATC250R's are the only non 2 wheeled bikes I've seen beat Raptor's and Banshee's, stock for stock. Since you seem to know how to ride, you would definitely be happier on the 450. Plus you're use to kick start and no reverse anyway!

Pendejo

Have you ridden a 450R? And if you did how did it compare to the ATC? I know ride wise it is completly diff but talking about exceleration.

I wish I could test ride one around here in DALLAS.
