It's hard to take any info that comes out of any "commission" seriously! These organizations are staffed by political appointees from previous "liberal" administrations. Many members have an ideological axe to grind. For them, the conclusion comes first, then the data.

If you actually read the article it actually shows atvs in a more postitive light than they are currently held in at washingont.

Welcome to the world where we have activists trying to provide a different perspective. That doesn't mean that we should be glossing over the injury stats. They are real enough... and way too high. It is up to us to make sure that the next generation is better equipped, better trained, and more disciplined than we were. The sport today is in a different world than the one we grew up in... we have to educate ourselves to the new rules, and play the game as well as our opponents. We need your involvement to make a dent in the stats, and take away their number one complaint.

Something that I found interesting was that Honda has just openned a new rider training area that combines riding skills AND environmental responsibility in it's curriculum. They are teaching school kids about how to save the environment right beside the ATV riding course... Talk about aceing the environmentalists... If the enviromentalist lobby doesn't play along, they become hypocrites.. There goes bullet number two... Way to go Honda!

Almost forgot why I commented in the first place...

Kids, you have to look at this from a parental perspective to fully understand what is going on. All they read about is the bad stuff in the newspaper.. and let's face it, with the injury stats being what they are, they have plenty to worry about. Then let's consider your mental state, and your discipline record. Can't follow rules, unsafe or rebellious behavior in the past perhaps..., all figure into a parent's decision. Let's admit it, if you can't do the simple things, and cooperate.. I.E. act like a responsible person, then what makes you think they will reward your actions with a "toy" that is capable of killing, or maiming you in an instant... all it takes is a moment of carelessness, and you could be dead.
Instead of complaining, why not try to demonstrate to your parents a certain level of maturity that would put them at ease a little... either way, it is ultimately their decision, and THEY are the parent.. THEY are responsible for making the adult decisions... Your wanting an ATV is not the issue... it is submitting to their authority.. If you can't do that.... well, I doubt any parent would cooperate with a young man or woman that can't be trusted....
