Tusk 1500 lb winch
#1
HEllo all,
Does anyone on here know anything about tusk winches that Rockymountianatv.com sells? They have a 1500 and a 2000, and a 3000.
the 1500 is 99 bucks. I am only going to use it to raise and lower my plow on my brute force. Do you all think it is too small? DO you all think they are crap.
Please let me know.
Thanks
Chris

A 1500# winch will lift a plow with no problem, but I dont no anything about the Tusk brand. I'd stick with a Warn myself and get a 2500# or 3000#. Once you get it on there, you might find yourself using it for more than you planned. I'd hate to find myself wishing I'd gotten a larger one later. I've had a warn and a Ramsey, no problems with either.

lewichris... check this WINCH out. I have this one and it works great....only 70 bucks. For some reason the price went up from $50 when I bought it 2 months ago. I use the winch with my plow setup. It's the best investment i've made on my quad so far.
This is the same one for $65 on overstock.com ---> winch
hope this helps

I am assuming i can just by the mounting bracket for my type and drill some holes?
also, do you have pics?
Thanks

Ive got a sportsman 600....I bought the mount plate off of ebay for $40. It said it was made for warn and ramsey but it fit. I'm sure if you drill a few holes, any plate will work with that setup. I'll try and get some pics up by tomorrow.
Also, instead of that awkward hand controller, I went over to radio shack and got a double pole double throw momentary switch for 5 bucks that works excellent. I put that right in the headlight pod.

i had the 2000lb tusk winch on my kodiak. used it alot for pulling myself out of mud holes. it worked fine for me. it is pretty much the same as a superwinch or the winch that cabelas sells. if you are just using it for plowing then should be fine.
