Default Searching AWD not working correctly

I searched and searched but I have a question regarding the AWD... First mine is a 04 Mag 4x4. The AWd is only working intermittingly in reverse only. Is this a normal sign for low or dirty hub fluid? I've just ordered a manual and every type of fluid that this thing holds (every some it doesn't) So before I get my manual I was looking at it today and this is what I was able to find. First: no broken wire to the gearcase (both small wires are attached but will check in details with an ohm meter. Second: Is the fill plug the 8mm plug on the right side (looking at the front)? If so I took it off and stuck my finger in and didn't feel any fluid other than what was on the wall, should I be able to feel a "pool" of it?

I do ride in mud and water the most, in doing this How often should I change my fluid? I've read my riders manual but it only says about oil not anything else that I found.

Thanks for any help or info,

Rob

You are on the right track ... I change my fluids all of them at every oil change. It seams a cheap way to keep my machine running in top shape.
